Wedding Tidbits of The Day

When planning an event you need to be sure that you know and understand the etiquette that is involved. This is especially true when it comes to weddings. Today we will discuss Bridesmaid Etiquette and this is a very important subject for any new bride. Below are some tips on sticky situations and just general questions:
  1. Bridesmaids are generally required to purchase their own attire for the wedding and this includes shoes and accessories. Keep this in mind when choosing your dresses for your Bridesmaids because you want to be considerate about their finances.
  2. If one of your Bridesmaids drops out of your wedding or you don't have an even amount of attendants, it is acceptable to have two groomsmen walk one Bridesmaid down the aisle. It is considered unacceptable the other way around.
  3. There is a rule when it comes to how many guests you have and how many attendants. You can forget this rule if you have four best friends and one sister and are only inviting 100 guests! This is one of those rules that most brides "forget".
  4. Technically, you are allowed to have  "Maid of Honor" (unmarried but over 18), "Matron of Honor" (married) and "Maiden of Honor" (unmarried but under 18). This makes it easier for those girls who are to young to be your maid of honor but too old to be the flower girl.
  5. It is not required of you to purchase gifts for your Bridesmaids but it is considerate. If your girls are fulfilling their "duties" they are doing a lot of work. Show them how much you appreciate all their hard work by buying them little gifts. Remember, it's the thought that counts...not the pricetag.

Wedding Tidbit of The Day

Looking for something different to do with your wedding cake? Try the Five Little Cake method. You may find it surprising but this is actually a very old custom. In Medieval times, a variety of many cakes would be put into a pile and the couple would try to kiss over it. Keep in mind that back in those times, cake were unleavened bread biscuits. Aren't you glad you get real cake? Eventually someone came up with the idea to layer cakes and what an idea it was! It became so popular that today it is custom to have a tiered wedding cake but that doesn't mean that you have to get one! Why not get a few little cakes that are all different in design? Your guests will enjoy the change and so will you when you get to take them all home and eat them with your new spouse!

Wedding Tidbit of The Day!

A theme wedding is step away from the traditional that will make your wedding something special. Depending on the theme you choose, you can live out your fantasies of living in another time or another place. (Just make sure to give your guests a heads-up so that they aren't shocked to see your groom in tights at your Renaissance-themed wedding. Some ideas include the following:

A Period Wedding- Emphasize the traditions, costumes, music and customs of an earlier period.

An Ethnic Wedding- Perhaps you and your fiance would like to highlight the culture and costumes of your ethnic backgrounds.

A Holiday Wedding- A wedding during a holiday season can take advantage of the decorations and spirit of that time.

The All-Night Wedding- This is a wedding celebration that's planned to last through the entire night. The wedding usually comes to a close with breakfast the next morning.

A Weekend Wedding- You've heard of an all nighter? Well, this is an all-weekender. Usually, a weekend wedding is set up like a mini vacation for you and your guests, taking place at a resort or hotel.

A Surprise Wedding- The wedding is a surprise not to you, but to your guests. Invite people to a standard issue party-your guests will be completely surprised when they arrive at a wedding.

What about a wedding with a sports theme? A beach party wedding? How about a hoe-down weddin' theme? Pick something and go all the way with it.

Wedding Tidbit of The Day!

Wedding photos are a crucial part of your special day, so why not make them unique? Many couples are choosing to have a backdrop for their guests to take pictures at so they can add them to their guest or scrapbook. Why don't you try taping a variety of long stemmed flowers to a wall (using peonies, carnations, orchids and lilies because these don't wilt easily) and let the strips show!

Color scheme of the day is Blue & Silver.

Summer Wedding Season Is Almost Here!

June 21, 2011 is the beginning of the summer season and with that brings weddings, lots of weddings. Peak wedding season is between April and October and there are many reasons why it is that way. For one, Spring and Summer have some of the prettiest flowers and weather. Even though Texas summers are extremely hot, couples still choose it as one of their favorite times of the year to get hitched. If you are looking to getting married this summer or the next, there are some things to keep in mind.

Even though an outside ceremony and reception sounds like a good idea, you may want to reconsider unless you are able t get an outdoor tent with air-conditioning. Most couples want an outside ceremony and then follow with a reception  indoors and this is probably the way to go. Most receptions involve dancing and you don't want you or your wedding dress getting sweaty from the heat or your guests suffering and wanting to leave early because they cannot deal with the heat. Do keep in mind (if you are having an outside ceremony or reception), that weather is unpredictable and you may want to have a Plan B just in case the morning of your wedding it is raining.

When having a summer wedding, the amount of color choice broadens a bit. You generally can use all types of colors depending of your theme (if you have one!) and don't have to ask yourself "Is baby pink appropriate for a December wedding?).

Due to summer being part of peak season for weddings, the cost of vendors and venues may go up. You may also have to compete with other brides to get the day you want for your venue and it may be more difficult. If you plan on having a summer wedding, you really should book your venue 9-12 months ahead of time.

2011 Summer Wedding Trends:
Vintage Themed Weddings. The roaring 20's is coming back in style when it comes to weddings. You do want to incorporate modern elements to make it not so "old fashioned" and more "vintage inspired". You can use your Grandparents (or even your Great Grandparents!) wedding pictures in your decor. Also, you might want to consider "Old School" photography. Draped textiles as backgrounds in a relaxed setting is very trendy these days because it is simple and unique.

Video Guest Books. These are becoming a very popular wedding trend and we don't see it going anywhere soon and why should it? It is a great way to keep memories of your special day and you can even make copies in case you lose one in a move.

Ballerina Romance. Baby pink and black with a hit of tulle is a very romantic way to go for your wedding. It is also very unique. Now we are not saying that you should have all your bridesmaids on tutus and your groomsman in leggings (were not saying you shouldn't either), but a hint of sultry ballerina can be beautiful if done right.

Pre-Wedding PJ Parties. Slumber party fun the night before your big day! What could be more fun? You can do facials, get your nails painted, relax and be silly with your girls (again) before your a married woman!

2011 Summer Wedding Colors:

Pink, Green and Orange.
Black, White and Yellow.
Purple.
Lavendar and Mint.
Black, White, Green.

Remember, these are the trends but that does not mean you have to use them in your wedding. Your wedding is your special day and you should be completely happy with everything you do with it. Have the wedding that you dreamed up when you were a little girl and have fun planning!
